Dropping Julia at The Cello Room at Arcuri // Free Show - If you missed them last month...

Dropping Julia is a Charlottesville-based funky-pop-rock group led by front-woman, songwriter and guitarist Emily Julia Kresky. Born in Northern New Jersey, she began writing songs and picked up the guitar at the age of 19, which she carried all over the U.S. and across the pond where she spent time working on farms and busking on the streets of Europe. Her excursions eventually landed her in Virginia and she has since performed her songs at restaurants, bars, old theaters, listening rooms and festivals throughout the state and along the east coast.

In the spring of 2018, when Emily linked up with bassist Niko Cvetanovich and drummer Sean Bracken to form Dropping Julia, her songs took on a new personality. With lively elements of 90’s-inspired pop, funk and R&B layered over songs rooted in folk, Dropping Julia presents modern pop music fused with authenticity and soul, lending it a retro and nostalgic glow. Their captivating performances richly combine a steadfast rhythm section, impassioned vocals, dynamic transitions and rhythms, catchy melodies and haunting lyrics. They plan to release their debut album, “Wake Up”, in April 2019. In preparation for this release, the band has been tirelessly on the road, charming audiences in their hometown as well as up and down the east coast on stages including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, NYC’s Rockwood Music Hall, NorFOLK Festival, TomTom Founders Festival, and RVA Music Hall. Radiating dedicated musicianship and entertaining camaraderie, Dropping Julia’s genuine onstage chemistry has a magnetic effect, drawing fans and newcomers alike to join in on the the celebration.
